In season 1, mother cat Mimi lives with her kittens Django, Kaat, Lotje and Patrick. While she's out at work, the lazy, decadent uncle Boudewijn looks after them — assisted by his butler, a tortoise named Ed, who tries to keep the chaos in check.

In season 2 the dynamic shifts with a new tenant and extra kittens, and Kattenlaan 9 grows into a small society of its own routines, squabbles and quiet triumphs.

The series earned cult status thanks to its double layer: children see funny cat adventures, while adults hear dry humour, satire and improvised dialogue.
